Why does my 1986 1915cc van sometimes run sweet as, then the next its running with high revs and even occasionally conk out all together at juctions???????

And also what should I be getting to the mile?

Welcome to the club. Does it only play up when cold (eg. for first 5 miles)? If so may well be something to do with your choke not working correctly.

Should get around 22/25mpg depending on types of road, probably quite a bit less if used for short journeys around town.

We get around 18 in town with same engine on LPG or petrol, 22ish on long runs

if it reving high and your mpg is crappp then i would say your choke is sticking on , or the carb heater
