had new silencer delivered today from jk for 1.9 watercooled df couldnt believe how heavy it is ; am i right in believin that the weight is just supported on the other pipes no bracket etc !

Which is why the late system has the support cradle, brackets and things. The VW accountants didn't just let em change stuff for the fun of it you know .

you could but I doubt it would make any difference to longevity

Early system???
they did have support brackets when new, but get junked over the years.. the y run back from the lower bolts to the mounts on the sump..
