Tell him what size engine, and he sets them up and balances them for you on a factory original syncrometer - excellent!!

Thanks for the ebay link..

Does this mean I can use them straight out of the box, or should I still take a trip on a rolling road before hitting the tarmac?

Just Kampers do a weber kit to replace pierburg if you can afford it.

They are worse than the pierburg.
They want rolling roading once done, they never seem to set up properly when they are on, yes they run but not as good as they would with a Pierburg and they don't go any faster.

Fix the Pierburg, cheaper, easier and it's meant to be there.

Or fit a pair of Weber IDF's or some DRLA's if you want performance and economy.

Never expect carbs to bolt on and go.
If you want DRLA or IDF, you will need Type 3 inlet manifolds.

I fitted the Weber 34 DAT Pierburg replacement kit two years ago and I'm happy with it. At that time I could not find a new or recon Pierburg anywhere. I understood that the Weber kit has been designed to be an exact replacement for the Pierburg i.e. same performance, same economy. Acceleration and running are smooth.

Laurie is right when he says "Never expect carbs to bolt on and go", and that will apply to a new Pierburg too. They all need setting up for a particular engine.

I've not done any jet tweaking yet although I may do so this winter because I have one small niggle. When the weather is cold, the van runs fine when the engine is cold and when it is hot, but as it comes off the cold-running cam it can stall at junctions until the engine has warmed. The enrichment needs to be staying on for a little bit longer. Having said that, I put a stainless exhaust on at the same time thus losing the cold air heating jacket, so that's probably had an influence too.
