RAL 6001, it is very close to the VW Escorial green, the standard colour the inside of my van currently has. Just a shade lighter though.

Yes I agree, its very much a case of sussing out the right mix of spirit - its not an exact science. You soon discover whats right - the noise from the roller is a really good indicator and only use the weight of roller - no pressure.

I remain unconvinced that spraying actually gives a better finish and theres far more to mask, take off etc too. No real tips other than read the WIKI several times and then go for it. I tried to cover everything I could think of. Love the cut-down roller idea. I'll add that to WIKI. Might solve the awkward area above windows.

Planning to do a week in Portmadoc from the 16th May if anyone is in the area that week.

Bloody weather!

I was all set to start on the roof today, but the weather (which was forecast to be sunny) is "pooh", so no painting today. Next chance I'm gonna get will be end of may bank holiday.

..so building cabinets instead.

Oh well.

Unlucky mate, we have beautiful wall to wall blue sky. And its almost hot! Sadly Laura has to work so I have the boys today. Otherwise I would have been rollering the second coat of blue. not even a breath of wind here. Sods law.

I got my paint this week, the weather is good and Friday afternoon I started prepping the van. Removed the bumpers, lights (dropped a headlight --silly bu

er) mirrors,handles and the grill. Gave van a good wash with truck clean to make sure all polish and silicones were removed and rubbed it with 600grit.

That was the easy bit, then it was time to mix the paint, used plastic pint glass left over from some weekend or other, mixed at 15% white spirit and held my breath---- time to start

Top half first white, as others have found the coverage is not good on the 1st coat but resisted the temptation to roller it on thicker, I enjoyed the comments from neighbours, I'll have the last laugh

Bottom half is emerald green. I have a thing about tractors

This ,morning I gave it a 2nd coat and thats how it is now, everything back on and I'll leave it for a few weeks to really harden off before I flatten back for its final coat.

The only place I had a problem with was where I had stone chipped along the bottom, i thought the paint was reacting but it just needed more thin coats.

The finish it has at the moment is acceptable and with flatting and polishing would be probably better than I would have achieved with a spray gun. Now my bumpers look shabby and I must fit new No plates

How long did you leave before putting every thing back on after second coat?

Hi, I left it 4 hours, the paint was touch dry but still soft, but with the rozzers patrolling the area looking for easy pickings, I didnt want to get done for vehicle not being roadworthy. Its the same every saturday round here. Last week they clamped all the untaxed vehicles.
I was very careful when refitting and have left everything loose so as not to "crush" the fresh paint. I havent driven it yet and will tighten all the screws/bolts tomorrow

1st coat done on roof & van..roof white, van blue, few bits of peel but not too bad. Had a coat of white primer on the roof and thats come out perfect first coat really, don't think I'll bother with a second until next spring.

Bunged a new chrome grill on the front while I was at it and a new front bumper she looks like a new van now.

Trying to get the missis to do some pics, but y'know..

Your white, Rugchucker, looks awesome mate! Atleast from the photo, but mine did too. Its only when you get up close you know better

The green looks stunning.

I treated the rust then keyed it up with very fine sanding pads fom work.and just rollerd on the Matt Black and rollerd on some more
(the Matt Black goes off very quickly)
the great thing about using the Matt paint is the prepping dosent have to be spot on

I found that 2.5 ltr onley just did my van with just a thin coat on the roof
