need urgent help please - oil buzzer.

Post by BLUG »

i may be buying a van 1.9 dg petrol, when i strated it after about a couple of mins the oil buzzer came on and the oil light started flashing,i had a little fiddle with the multi connector on the dash pod, and the note of the buzzer changed slightly.
i left the van to cool down, and after 1/2 hour re started it again, after 10 mins the buzzer and light came on again.
the van idles well but has a little bit of a flat spot when warm, however, i am hoping its electrical, but due to the fact its coming one when the engine is getting warm, has got me paranoid that the engines goosed, the guy has done an oil change on it also.it revs up ok too.and has just passed an mot (incl. emmisions)
what do you think?

it may only be the senders, it may only be a wiring problem, or it maybe real..... you either need to have it oil pressure tested, or risk a engine change, depends on if you can get enough knocked off the price, and take a risk........ only you can take that chance

as ian said, be wary! it may just be the sender, of it maybe lots more - the question is, how lang has it been doing it, and has he been using it like it??????

No. 90% of oil light and buzzer problems are due to the fact that it was a stupid design.

If the buzzer goes off, stop the engine and re-start it. If the oil light goes out and stays out on tickover, you probably have enough oil pressure.

Also, if your tappets are reasonably quiet, that also proves that you have oil pressure.

There are 2 wires to the negative side of the coil. Disconnect the thinner one and drive.

Honestly! I have stripped and rebuilt engines because of the buzzer, under warranty and found, on stripping them nothing whatsoever wrong with them.

So. If the light stays out on tickover, the problem is the buzzer, not the engine.

the light stays ON at tickover, as does the buzzer, and i think its kinda tappety as well,on the second time of starting, it was ok, then came on when it had a chance to get warm, i think if it was elec, it would have started right away.

im willing to take the chance but the guy doesnt want to chip anything off the price, AND he has been using it like that, he does say that it goes off when drivin, but it aint got tax so - no roadtest.

Wouldn't you fix it to sell it or at least disconnnect it?
That said I have had a van with it going off and I changed the sender and all was fine! And I have also had one fail and thought I had a huge oil leak it sprays everywhere so tis is a suspectable part due to stoopid design and pressure around it!!!
SO for the sake of a tenner or so even from VW get him to change it - if he wont fix leave it! :P
Thats PEET as in FEET!!!

If it is buzzing on tickover, there is a problem. Don't bother with it unless the price allows you to spend a load of dosh on it

Quite often a simple Oil and filter change can eliminate this sort of thing.

spoke to him again today and he said hes spoke to the place where it was motd and they tol him to disconnet the sensors , which he did and the buzzer and light stayed on, and the temp & fuel gauges dont work, now i had a prob like this(no buzzer though) with my diesel and i sorted it out by stripping the inst.pod cleaning/repairing connections etc,the guy at the garage also said, that it could need the oil pickup cleaning, but he seems t think its an electrical fault, and apparently when reconected the buzzer stayed off.

all in all its a good van, at a good price, and i like it, but doont wanna get stung.

I've had the buzzer of doom twice now - and both times it was a knackered engine!

Its got to be seriously cheap to be able to buy this with the prospect of it being foobarred before you've driven it off the forcourt. Body work must be A1.

Sound like he's took the wrong wires off for the sensors (ie the temp doesnt work).

Good luck!
