Wing mirrors refitting

Post by sezicoolcat »

Hi all,

Got an A reg T25 Transporter, come camper.
Someone took a baseball bat to the RHS mirror last night and snapped it off.

2 large screws secure the stalk - if i remove these screws, will bolts fall into the door? Or are they self-tapping type? Glass remains in tact and I migth repair this back to the stalk (strong adhesive) and maybe replace the mirrors when I can get hold of some...

Just need to know whether I've got to strip the door down to refasten.
Also, OH has just asked whether the large syncro type mirrors (with the metal bars securing it top and bottom) will fit this van?

There's threaded fixed "nuts" under the mounting area - so nothing will fall off if you undo them.
Those large mirrors can be fitted but someone else will have to tell you if there are modifications to make for them.

The large "Syncro" mirrors fit to the base without alteration, but they need three holes drilled in the upper door frame where the other fixing point is

The proper T3 Truck mirrors bolt streight on at the bottem into the captive nuts, but the LT types (look simular, easyer to get) need modifying I think as the hole arangements aren't quite the same.

Top bracket are held on with selftappers, just drill the door. Again the LT types need a bit more work to make fit.

Thanks for all your help - we have araldited the ripped off wing mirror back tot he stalk.

Ermie571 advised how to adjust the mechanisms so that they can be swung in (we didn't know they could - we thought they were fixed - they were so tight)

Thanks everyone!
