Bespoke gas hobs - any advice?

Post by citydreams »

We've managed to build a nice looking cheese-wedge as the main cooking area in our van. But we can't find any ready-made units that will fit it. :D

Can anyone recommend a gas fitter / metal worker that might be able to help?

p.s. that's not a dog bowl, it's the sink!

Hi - nice! Might help if we knew where you were - no point recommending a gas fitter in Inverness if you are in Exeter!!!

to be honest I can't see you putting a gas ring anywhere on that which won't spoil the look of the unit, it's quality work and I can see the thought thats gone into it but you have made the sink a focal point so anything to the left or right will upset the design.

for me I would have to move the sink further along the edge behind the seat and put a small 2 burner hob along the window side with maybe a nicely shaped stainless steel piece under both which also curves round where you have the sink now (if that makes any sense?)

only my opinion though

No worries about spoiling the look! The final design is to have a lid on top of the wedge unit that we take off to use as the table, so everything will be hidden anyway.

Tantalisingly close!!!

What I'm really looking for is two single hob units, measuring 250mm x 200mm at most.

Maybe it's time to try out a raw food diet.

Thats fantastic! nice to see someone having a go at something different. I agree with Dave and the single burners, could they be fitted in a stainless bowl, mirroriong the sink? I know you can get single burners and there are loads of stainless bowls with flat bottoms ( like dog bowls) of various sizes. Keep us posted on what you come up with.
