I'm confused about the pipes now. That diagram has got me scratching my head!
[img:551:578]http://www.club80-90.co.uk/techhelp/radpipes2.jpg[/img]
It shows:
* The pipe which attaches to the top of the stat ("to cylinder head") going into what looks like the bottom of the radiator
* The pipe which attaches to the bottom of the stat ("to pump") curving around in a bit of a J and then looking like its going up... to somewhere... the top of rad maybe...?
In fact, that J shaped pipe connects to the bottom of the rad not the top. That connection is hidden from view in the diagram as its on the bottom edge, directly beneath the visible one!
So both hoses attach to the bottom of the rad? No... I think the cylinder head connection (visible in the diagram) is actually on the bottom end of a fat vertical metal pipe which is fixed into the right-hand side of the rad, on the outside of it, which only opens into the body of the rad at the top end - have I got this right? Anyone ???
The J-shaped pipe on mine, which according to the diagram goes to the water pump (bottom of stat), was going to the cylinder head (top of stat) on mine... which is wrong... surely?

If it is any help, the fella that designed the system is said to be still under heavy sedation, in a secure sanatorium near Wolfsberg
I am unable to physically look at an early cooling system, never been there, not done it, no tee shirt, mine is the later attempt, but...... back to basics, the return from the bottom of the radiator must surely go to the 'eye' of the pump, (centre of the impeller) I am with you that the connection to the top of the radiator is actually on the bottom end of a fat vertical metal pipe which is fixed into the right-hand side of the rad, on the outside of it, but hey, that is from memory and when you get past the four score years and ten........
anyway what the hell, you have tried it one way, go for the AC/DC option, whatever does it for you.
Someone with knowledge of the earlier system will surely be along before too long to sort it for you. Mocki........ help,............ please help.

right, firstly, i have stolen that full diagram, Grun, and it will be stored in the club80-90 techhelp folder on the 80-90 server, should you need to use it again.........
ok, yes the diagram i posted is from the "other" manual, and is a little confusing, the pipe in question does indeed fit at the bottom of the rad, to where a pipe runs up the side of the rad(built in so to speak) however apart from the crap picture drawing abilities of the man who drew it, it is correct........
the other diagram is better for all intense and thingmys..........
