1600 CT Engine thermostat where ya hiding ya little ****!

Post by dugcati »

now available in black text too!.......

Wotcha folks..

Had a rummage around on the forum and can't find anyone else asking the same question so here goes...

I have not long back bought a '81 Devon Aircooled with a Modded 1600CT engine - it's donkey has been been beefed up a bit with some brand new 1800cc barrels and pistons/twin webbers/remote oil cooler and filter and a couple of other bits n bobs.

Having gone through the engine to verify the age/condition of it (barrels/pistons are as I was told and are brand new with the honing marks still on the barrels...bonus!) I am now rebuilding and replacing the timeware and after replacing the old knackered tin fan housing and broken air flaps with an Ally one that has working flaps I am now a bit stuck in that my engine has no thermostat housing and I cant find any images/info either in the trusty haynes book or on the tinterweb of where the chuff the thermostat should bolt onto and indeed what it looks like etc!

I am certain that these CT engines should have a thermostat but i cannot find any info on them!

Can someone help with images/info and link to where I can buy thermostats/housings and linkages pleeeeassssseee!!

It doesn't sound like a CT to me. The CT fan housing is steel. They didn't make and alloy one. The thermostat on a CT is usually mounted on the filler neck studs.
If someone had fitted a fixed flap on the left hand side, it was probably me, if it was a CT.

It's deffo a CT - I managed to acquire a 2.0l (cu?) tinware kit and ally fan housing - I still have the old proper CT tin one just thought an ally one is a bit posher ;o)

The old flaps were.. just well flapping around as the last chap took off the springs and it looks like he may have broken the rod they are mounted on into two allowing them to move independently of each other - an odd thing to do if he did it but....

You mention mounted on the filler neck studs - you mean the studs that the oil filler tube is located on? if so I am still lost as these studs seem as though they are only just long enough to do the job of holding the oil filler neck onto the crank case - you don't have a pic of one set up do ya?

You drew that? I'm very impressed, been looking for a diagram like that for ages!
Having just dropped my CT, that would certainly help me Bigherb. Hope you don't mind me printing a copy, for reference?
