Usually just pressing throttle pedal to floor, leaving it there (dont pump it, it will make it worse!) and turning over engine will clear excess fuel within about 5 seconds usually.

Thanks :)

Well, to close this one off, since our engine clearly needs surgery and the poor beast it's in doesn't even have an mot yet, we've decided to stick a 2nd hand engine in there for now. This will allow us the breathing space to;

Get it mot'd
Get it lpg'd
Sell our very nice, reliable green 1.6TD :wink:
Then, hopefully we can get in touch with Laurie again and arrange to combine a family holiday in Scotland with swapping over to one of his 1776's :D

I'd like to say a big thanks to everyone who offered advice and good wishes, this site really is a godsend! I remember the pre internet days of pouring over the tech pages in back issues of volksorld and the like, hoping that I'd find what I needed to know! :lol:

Anyway, that's it for now, look out for the 'help, I can't get my engine out/in thread coming to these pages soon! :?

Thanks again everyone
