Hi all,

I have a 1982 t25 2L Aircooled. The engine seized about a month ago.

The engine that was in it was a CJ code, I have got hold of a CU code engine. The two look very much alike.

Can I put the CU engine in? :?:

Also the alternator on the CJ engine had a thick red wire that went to the starter and 4 other wires on a connector. The CU alternator has 2 red and one blue. does anyone know where the wires go to?

I bought the camper two months back to take the family weekends away :D . After 3 weeks the engine seized huge oil leak. Oops :oops:

Helping me could save my life, as the Mrs really aint happy. :x

Hi, if you look in the wicki at the top of the page, then in the Aircooled petrol section it might be a help. there is stuff there on engine removal etc, good luck!

The CU is the normal - or at least more common - 2.0 litre engine for these vehicles, it will be fine :)

Have you got any idea on the wires from the alternator?

It sounds like your van has already had an engine transplant at some point, it should have a CU engine.

CJ came from the 2.0L bay window T2.

The alternator should be an easy fix, let me have a quick think.

Ok, on the alternator there should be three pins to connect to.

Starter motor (big red one)
Battery (big red one)
Alternator warning light (blue)

They normally have a connector to keep them all together.

Thats from memory, so I'm sure someone with Haynes manual will be along shortly. :D

Yes. It should have been a CU. The 2 red wires go to the starter (and thence to battery through the big wire) You'll find a blue wire in the right hand side of the engine comp.

Where are you, and what are you doing with the dead unit?
