I have done some research on this problem but could some one advise me on how to stop my battery dying?
I have a 1988 1.6TD - after charging the old one and it going down after two days left idle and then condenming it i fitted a new decent battery.
This has now gone flat on me.
I do have a leisure battery also - and it appears this is just wired to the engine battery to 'share' the charge? no split charge device in there.
I have also fitted an Alpine stereo but i think you can 'turn it off' using the power switch before removing fascia.
Anyway, my new battery is now on charge after disappointing me on the weekend as i jumped excitedly to head off on a pleasure cruise....blah blah....
Why does my battery keep going flat? PLEASE.......any ideas?
Thanks

i will be mayor!
MGW,
Have a look at this (rather long) thread.
Here
My suspicion would be that your leisure battery is draining your main battery. Try disconnecting it before you put your newly charged main back in, just taking off the leisure battery earth lead will do it.
Then fit a split charge relay.
