Just to update anyone that read my post above, I was totally wrong in what was causing the problem. It was the battery. Even though we had put it on charge, it still wouldn't turn. The man that does the mechanics on my vehicles came out to take a look at it. He worked out that the battery had dropped a couple of cells. I've bought a compatible but more powerful battery and it now starts fine. The other problem was that the rear brake shoe had rusted solid and was preventing the rear wheel from moving. The mechanic gave it some encouragement with a hammer and it released. It's now having a few other things done and should be fully MOT'd by the end of tomorrow.

Many thanks to Keith for offering to let me buy his starter motor - it turned out that the year of my van would have made it unsuitable but it's nice to know that there are really helpful people here that will try to help.

Roll on Friday when the camper comes back - if the weather holds I want to take off in it next week!

hello againglad you guys are all getting away in your vans. How i miss mine!!
Still trying to get a starter for my friends ac van, but don't want to buy one until i know it will work, ie will a 2000ac starter work on a 1600ac vehicle??

any assistance very welcomed
