replacement brakes for early van....

Post by lhd »

The disc's on my 83 westy have a big lip.
Also the caliper fitted are the teves kind. where can I source some disk's and calipers. Will the post 86 ones fit, as I cant seem to find any replacement teves for pre 86. I think I will change both the disc's and calipers as every time I do this job on old vehicles, the pistons are stuck or pitted.
any advice please....
Ps I dont mind upgrading them if I can.
many thanks lhd.................

Brakes

Post by Tex Ritter »

The big lip means the brakes have been doing their job!

Why don't you wait 'til you've had a look at the caliper pistons, my 1980 van has the original teves.

I stripped them in June before my holidays for the first time and found the pistons to be in excellent condition, a bit sh=tty but OK, so I cleaned them up, renewed the seals and refitted them.

The brakes are now spot on...or were before I renewed the main brake line...to date I've still got to get round to bleeding them off.

Still I've got 'til May.

Strip em first..you may be surprised.
