Gears: Reverse not there....1st and 2nd are weird....

Post by T123 »

Hi,
After an engine change i noticed that i don't have reverse.
If i push down and left-up it goes in 1st. If i push down and left-down it goes in 2nd. 3rd is straight up and 4th is straight down.
Anyone know whats going on????
Its a 4 speed.
Thx,
Dave

Either the guide pin or rear shift rod (the long one from adjuster to gearbox) has been bent due to gearbox not being supported when engine was changed or the adjuster and clip has slipped.
If the clip has slipped, release bolt and nut holding clip in place and rotate front rod clockwise slightly (looking from rear).
Tighten nut and bolt and try again.

Ps. You also have adjustable length at the same adjuster but don't alter this as you'll start changing radio stations or hitting the seat! This is altered by sliding the two halves apart or together.

Pps. Adjuster is located just behind the fuel tank.

You don't have to loosen it when changing engine but it may have slipped. Just follow what I put above to re-adjust and it should return to normal!
