Brake Fluid

Post by kathyshack »

Hi All, over at my mums in the van at the mo and the brake fluid light has started to come on when going downhill. Just checked the levels and it is on the min level. Can I just go and get some more brake fluid and top it up? I seem to remember somethign about not mixing old and new brake fluid....
Had a good look around and can't see any leaks or anything. Had the mast cyclinder done about 3 years ago.
Main question for the moment is is it safe to top it up?
thanks,
kathy

yep, top it up.

the not mixing thing is when you have bled a system and the stuff you have taken out should be not mixed with new, it will have air in it . Purseists say throw it away ( i say mix it with parafin and use it for penitrating oil and soaking rusty nuts in)

Brake fluid level drops as disc brake pads wear and the pistons in the calipers move out to accomodate this wear.
