Front or rear?

Not had to do the rear as yet, but my fronts both went last year and too me now more than an hour to do. Easy Peasy job.

do i have to fit specific t3 wheel bearings or could i fit ones from a newer model?

GSF car spares is where I got mine.

I would imagine they will be vehicle specific.

Thats the labor they have quoted to do the job? rears can be a complete pain.. depending on how rusty things are.. so fix the price......

Fronts.. well depending on if they just need adjusting (simple) if they are worn out, then they would have colapsed ages ago... but if they are worn and noisey then you may want to fit new brake discs unless yours are in very good nick.. the bearings fit in the brake disc itself.. there are 3 poss combinations for the fronts (dics to bearing combo) so make sure you get the right ones..
Bearings = Early (to 84) early change over (84-86) and late (86 on)
Discs = Early to 86 and late 86 on..

Yes toomany is right, the fronts are a "might aswell do it while your there" job

I've just killed a GSF rear bearing! Its done 2500 miles and been there for 5 months. It now rumbles loudly and wobbles an alarming emount - going to drive it across town to get it fixed but don't want to drive it any further. I've herd afew people moan about their wheel bearings in recent months, now I join the list.

I actully found this thread on the serch function trying to find a decent surplyer, obveously I won't be going to GSF and JK's kit is suspisously simular in price. I herd they are now obsolete from VW (is this true?) so I think Brickwerks looks like the best/only option?

If you want I'll post my wheel rocking video so you lot can get as scared as I was this afternoon when rotating my tyres round

Don't touch GSF bearings.
Cheap Chinese vetech brand, utter "pooh".
Caused me no end of problems.

Yes thats the brand I was told they use, aparently they switched to them relatively recently?

Hi everyone,

I've used wheel bearing sets from Just Kampers without any problems (they were german Febi Billstein ones).

One thing that does excessively wear out rear wheel bearings are bad CV joints !! This is what I found out when one of them only had 5 bearings left in it (one of them was nearly disintegrated). It's always a good idea to check the condition of the CV joints for distortion, scoring and missing bearings. If any of them are suspect then all four CV joints must be replaced !

Good luck with replacing your wheel bearings.

(Another place I would try as well is the VW Classic Parts Center in Wolfsburg, http://www.vw-classicparts.de. The website its self is in german only).

Ditto, GSF rears, thought it was me even though I've done bearings on countless motors, they're none to brill on the Doka now... Beaker warned me off GSF, a bit too late.
T25 rears are a bit of a strange setup, in that they seem to allow in-out play even when new and done right sometimes, but don't rock... for 3000 miles anyway

£80 labour for all 4, jump at that!
