I never found the orginals, so I'm still gonna have to drill out the fuel filler.

But the rest is sorted :D

For anyone else searching the boards in a similar situation in the future, the details are here.

1) Removed glove box lock - no number found
2) Removed ignition housing etc - no number visable anywhere
3) Removed the two cab door handles. These had a 4 digit number stamped on one of the "prongs" that twists when the lock is operated, unfortunately in my case they were two different numbers, xxxx and xxyy - I knew one of the doors had been changed previously, so suspected one/some of the locks had previously been retumbled.
4) Couldn't remove the tailgate lock, but could see the xxxx number printed on the twisty prong thing again.
5) Finally managed (after much wrist contortion due to my interior setup) to remove the sliding door handle, this again was xxxx.

6) Tried VW dealer : Sorry, van too old for key to be recut... but we can sell you a new lockset? No thanks!
7)Asked the lovely chaps in my local GSF for any alternatives, but unfortunately the guy they'd previously used is no longer running a shop.
8 ) Went to a long standing locksmith recommended by a friend - they looked a few details up for xxxx and cut me a key that fits first time!! (and then a second for safe keeping with someone else!) Also advised it's Nxxxx. Total cost for two keys - £20 and my eternal gratitude!

So anyone with the same problem in chelt/glos, can I wholehearted recommend Stokes and Sons, just off Albion Street in cheltenham!!!

wooohoooo!!!!!
