diesel into 81 Aircooled

Post by leroy99 »

please bear with me on this one, ive been clicking through the forum for a while now looking at diesel conversion threads. im wanting to put a 1.9 td vw engine into my 81 t25. can i use and adapt my current 4 speed box by changing the bell housing and input shaft to take the engine or do i need to get hold of a diesel box from a donor van. im fine with plumbing the engine in and any fabrications with mounts etc.. it just the box to engine mating process im confused with, any advice from people whove done similar would be must apreciated so i can keep my van and not stray down the t4 route!

Not impossible, but in my eyes a waste of time and money, buy a Diesel van, or at least a watercooled van.
It can be done but it's a lot of messing and it will never be as good as a proper watercooled van.
I have seen a few done and they are always a bodge, and if you are paying someone else to do it it will probably cost more than it costs to buy a watercooled van.

Just an opinion.
