Short Shifter Issues

Post by Hypnovan »

My 'short shifter' is too big for the hole.

It arrived today and a very well designed thing it is too. Thing is that the hole it's supposed to go into, to replace the existing pivot plate is waaayyyyyy too small. The short shifter slides down the gearstick and can only sit on the carpet. I couldn't even get a spanner or socket in to undo the two 10mm bolts and even if I could what would be the point.

Are there other versions of this short shifter?

Is my van a freak or was the existing pivot plate fitted to my gearbox before the gearbox was installed?

Any ideas...other than to remove the entire gearbox, fit the short shifter and replace the whole lot?

Some helpful soul somewhere on this forum mentioned something about moving the existing plate a little in order to cure the massive swing between gears. I'm off in search of that posting.

Ah....bugger!! That means removing the gearbox, sliding it over the gearstick while it's out, bolting it down and refitting it. If I knew that was going to be the case, i wouldn't have bothered getting one.

thanks for your reply.

riiiight. Gearstick front, gearbox rear.... I knew that ...

so before I go loosening bits that could kill my lovely van in order to fit this thingy, can you please tell me what I will need to do to fit it? The gearstick surely has to come out or something like that. Is there a section that drops down underneath the gearstick? Maybe I should ask Brickwerks too. 8)

Whatever happens, it'll have to be on a ramp or something just to get the clearance. Hmmmm

thanks again fella
