part number for the return pipe to a DG waterpump

Post by mal0r »

Does anyone know what the description is for this part so I can find the part number for it, or better still if you know the part number. It seems like it is another discontinued part from VW!

Nope - it's the metal pipe that runs back to the pump Looks like it's about £63 from vwheitage.com and a good 270 odd to fit! Sometimes I wish I had forgone the gael and dug an inspection pit!

Is it the lowest of the two pipes in this photo that you're after?

I believe it is the the lowest one pictured above. It seems quite a hard beast to find. Cheers Mr H, do you know the part number for that? It may be extinct in these parts, but if I can search further afield for it...

Also, does this mean my van doesn't have what I thought was a later model 1.9 watercooled DG engine in ? Which would be wierd as it's a 1989 model, but the guy selling it let me know that it has had a new (not reconditioned) engine put in it.

Have a look for your thermostat housing . . . is it a metal one that is bolted onto the side of the water pump, as in the photo (early DG), or is it a black plastic one that is sited higher up and not directly fastened to the pump (late DG engine).

Here's a photo here which may help . . . thermostat housing is sat at the back of the engine bay, not next to the water pump. Air filter housing is a different shape to early DG as well:

It's in the garage at the moment, but I've a feeling the thermostat housing is separate further to the left and up a bit. Which would make it a later DG, but that wouldn't make sense if the later water pipe doesn't fit right?

Sorry, I've exhausted my very limited knowledge of the later DG engine! Have you had a look on the vagcat website? It's free to register and you might be able to see the pipe you need there, and get a part number for it.

The curved pipe which goes behind the crankshaft pulley is what I bought ... part # 025121151 lists on vagcat at 38.45 Eurodisneydollars (cost more from VW here in't UK though ?)

Hmm, I think that just might be the fella. I'll double check with the garage, and then buy the thing if it allows me. You're a great help Mr H.
