Round to square headlights....

Post by lhd »

Can any body give me any advice on fitting these square lights to my 1983 lhd, I have the grill & four lights in the surround, the problem I am having is that the n/s light will not go into the recess properly as the speedo cable is in the way. I can push it in with force, but this does not seem right as the resistance from the speedo cable is bending the metal headlight surround, which will put the lights out of line.
Also there are no wires for the two smaller lights.
If anyone has done this conversion and can help, I will be forever gratefull.
many thanks lhd............

I don't know how different the LHD van is to the RHD but when I fitted mine (also to a 1983 van) I had to remove the rubber boot that covered the loom and split it so one bit went round the side of the lights.
Other things to check - are the mounting frames correct? I had 2 lh ones when I bought mine (30quid from VW)and that caused the light to sit too far back, and have you got the little metal tabs that you rivet to the body to space the bottom of the light out (only a couple of quid from VW)

For the wiring I believe that you can use the loom section from any twin headlamp VW, I haven't wired mine up yet but when I do I will rewire and relay them off as I am not sure how 23year old wiring designed for 45/40w tungsten bulbs will cope with 55/60w + 55w halogen lights.
