Calling any intercooled syncro owners

Post by smokeyjon »

Hi all
Does anyone have an intercooler fitted under the rear corner of their syncro behind the lights? I've fitted one here (yes, I know the problems and hear that charge coolers are better BUT I've done it now!), and have therefore had some problems finding an alternative position for the air filter (given the position of the fuel filler pipe on the other side).

Mine works OK (photos to follow) but doesn't work too well as lots of things are rubbing on each other :(

I'm looking for ideas/inspiration (better size/proportioned air filters perhaps?) for a better long-term solution.

I heard one of the syncronutz buses had an air pipe welded into the rear valence but never heard where the air was filtered...

Thanks in advance,
John

Cheers Mudlark - mine was there before I fitted the intercooler but that's where the intercooler is so there's no space left!

I presume I need to find a smaller or better shaped air box or look at the inlet manifold setup to see if I can get the JX airbox back in its original position

It's an AAZ, but I'd say there has been some improvement. Noticeable, but nothing drastic in terms of power, although it does run a bit cooler. I'm far from an expert but I believe this is the main advantage as it means you can do other bits of tuning (eg fuel and boost) without raising the temperature. I just haven't got round to any of these yet :)

Anyone got a spare SB boost pin?!!
