JX to 1Y... manifolds and turbos....

Post by mrhutch »

Hello all..

My JX 1.6 td is sick. I've been offered a 1Y engine complete with alternator and injector pump for a nice figure and have been unable to find an AAZ for double what the guy wants for the 1Y....

So (ringo where are you) what's life like with the 1Y as this is my daily driver, mostly A roads but when on motorway it's usually a few hours journey on business. My bus has the dog-leg 5 speed box in.

Also, I thought the 1Y was ECU'd and electronic?

Can I use my JX exhaust and inlet and fuel pump and turbo it?

TIA

Yep, swap over all your bits to the 1Y - the turbo should work apparently.
Not sure about the jx pump though.

The 1Y hasnt got an ECU - some of them have got an imobiliser - but this is easy to sort out.

My 1Y blew up on Sunday night - so im going to put another one in next weekend - as a temporary measure until i find a 1Y with guaranteed low mileage (hah).

I can only assume the reason it blew up was because i did 20k miles in a year since installing it and it had already done god knows. Plus, im not nice to my diesels, they get thrashed.

I dont know Clive, i checked the oil level and all seemed fine (not been having any issues previously), set off from London to Nottingham and 30 miles into the journey realised we had an oil problem (couldnt see out the back window as it was covered).

We stopped, saw that oil was spurting out the top of the dipstick.

It was 12.00 am and i was tired, so i bunged the top of the dipstick, filled up with oil and did the last 100 miles with no issues traveling around 50-60mph.

Gets in the van next day to see it is burning a lot of oil out of the exhaust (makes a smoke screen) under light load onwards.

Who knows, but im putting another 1Y in on Friday.....

Well i rate it very good.Lots of beef & makes a more relaxed driving.I used the 1Y exhuast manifold and a 1.6n inlet + airbox.MPG is a bit better than the 1.6td i had .
