losing water

Post by j_robi »

just wondering how much water the van should be using? just seem to have to be topping it up reguarly. the expansion tank is always full, but the water tank seems to go down pretty quick
what are the likely problems?

Must be a leak somewhere, can you see any water dripping from anywhere?

Answer is NONE.
But with age leaks come along.
If you see no leaks , it is interal, i.e cracked head -diesel
If if is , say ,cupful of coolant every 1000 miles who cares anyway?
wait till something really goes wrong before sweating , eh :P
Believe nothing you hear and only half of what you see.

if yours is an early (up to '85 iirc) with metal pipes running from engine bay to radiator sometimes a slow leak from the main front to back pipes is hidden where pipes run above fuel tank, try parking with front uphill and see if owt runs off top of tank
