Aircooled into Watercooled

Post by Dangerbus »

Hi all,

I see this question has been asked fairly recently and didn't get much of a response but here goes:-

I have a 1988 crew cab (LHD) running a poorly 1.9dg engine and 5 spd box, I am thinking of removing the lump and fitting my 2.0 recently rebuild Aircooled engine and 4spd gearbox from my 1980 (RHD) bus does this sound possible. I guess I need to swap the gear linkage aswell? Anything else?

The intention is that this will be a temp swap as I can then rebuild the WBX (big bore upgrade???) at my leisure.

I can't see any problems apart from the faff of a bit of wiring or am I missing something really obvious?

Thanks in advance.

Karl

As a temp fix, yeah.. but no heat.. gearbox mount may cause an issue.. but you could run the 5 speed in any case.. (then that may cause cooling tin sealing problems as engine may not be in quite the right place!!)

PM'd yer...
