diesel pump

Post by hagzo »

currently looking at a t25 camper and the owner says -
'the engine runs very smooth; except right after the (cold) start it's a bit irregular. According to the specialists this is caused by the normal wear of the diesel pump at this age'.

I was wondering if this is a fair assesment and wether it will cost much replace?

As your attorney I advise you that diesel engines are generally rough at start up for some basic reasons -

Dead glowplug(s)
Dirty injectors resulting in poor spray pattern and hence combustion
Cold start handle on dash not being pulled out (advances timing)

This is not an exhaustive list and poor starting can be indicative of various other engine malaises.

Go see the van and tell us some more then.

Three words:

Buy on body.

You would need to allow some bargaining for a replacement engine if the existing one is a bit ropey, but it's the body that's the important bit these days.....

yes i've seen a few posts on the forum suggesting that the body work is important.

The chap has sent me some photos that shows the body to be in great condition - there's no rust at all except the very top of the boot where it meets the hi-top (which has had a recent coating) and a little on the front spoiler. The interior looks good as well.

The van has a replacement engine on 50k and a new gearbox (he says he used the one from this for another), however it's only four speed. The clutch was replaced with the gearbox along the belts, filters, rear cylinders, main battery and the injectors adjusted. Oh yes it has an Ouettinger intercooler (i presume that's good)

It's the first time i have bought this type of vehicle and am going to have to drive it back from Holland so i'm a little nervy.

If anyone else out there has more suggestions on what to check or look for when inspecting it please let me know

Cheers
