Coolant leak

Post by mininut »

I've got coolant leaking from the joint between the thermostat housing and the housing lid, (1.9DG).
I'm thinking the thermostat o-ring is goosed. Would I be right in thinking this or has anyone got any other suggestions as to what it might be?
Is there a gasket between the two halves or is it just the o-ring?

I take it I'll have to drain the system to remove the thermostat.

I'll replace the metal water pipe that runs between the coolant pump and the thermo housing while I'm at it as mine has some nasty looking scabs on it. Anyone know if the JK ones are any good at £50?
Mr Baxter's got gen VW ones for £65 but I can't seem to register on his shop to buy one, (want some wheel nuts/bolts as well) :?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Paul

Sorry Paul, but be prepared for trouble, the screws in the top of the housing tend to become one with the brass captive nuts in the bottom half and turn the lot.

Take it off complete, there are 2 socket head capscrews that hold it on and even they were sha&&ed on our DG .... I replaced them with bzp bolts on the DJ, let me know if you want some  (Are you at Techy ?)
