Sticking throttle symptoms, stalling and other 2.0AC woes

Could anyone suggest any quick fixes: My 2.0 AC (CU engine) van has been left standing for 6 months; I've run flushing oil through it to try and sort out the sticking lifter (now ok). When running, it feels like it has sticking throttle - the revs stay high when dipping the clutch. A few blips on the throttle may bring them down to idle, at which point it stalls - if the "throttle" isn't stuck, the engine will not maintain idle. The engine will not pull much beyond 50mph - really slow accelerating with lots of stuttering. All was fine before laying it up for the winter. The MOT has run out so it is a little tricky trying to accumulate a few miles on it to let it sort itself out - if it ever would. I've tried bypassing the idle control device (plugging the two connectors together) but then the engine would not start.

spray absolutely everything to do with the ignition system with copious ammounts of wd40. include inside the dizzy and cap, all plugleads and the coil lead. also put some new petrol in to put some octane back into the tank as the modern fuel we buy goes off after about 3 weeks.
slacken the throttle cable a bit at the back then set the idle speed using the large brass screw (about 1/2 inch diameter) which sits in a recess on top of the left carb (looking from the back of the van)
ignore the rattly tappets as they will stop rattling after driving 10 miles or so.

AND give the trottle cable a good dose of Light oil, (3in1) and dont leave it standing, they dont like it!

Hi,
Just a thought but check that the outer cable is not sticking where it goes through the engine tinware, you can see it through the offside rear wheel arch, mine pulled back on full throttle and held the throttle partially open which on no load felt like full throttle. easy to fix and lubricate the cable by moving the air hose at the back (front) of the engine
