Code confusion

Please could you help a slightly retarded teacher. I have a 1990 Autohomes Komet in a kind of white/cream colour. I need to sort out some surface rust but where is the paint code.
The little, black VIN plate on the driver's door has three numbers on it and none seem like a paint code (one could be the number of the Britsh embassy in Belgrade).
Any help would be appreciated.

Rockhopper,
You may still have a sticker by the steering colunm just under the clocks, that will have the code on, could be 90D Pastel white.

Have you tried looking under the passenger seat? where the leisure battery is?
