Running out of gas?
I've got the gasure conversion and can anyone tell me what happens if you run out of LPG - does it automatically switch to petrol?
I had a system on a previous T25 and was told NEVER to run out of LPG - it could be catastrophic!
Also I'm having difficulty understanding the fuel gauge. When it's full I've got 2 green lights, after 90 miles I've got all 4 green lights.
Cheers

Elvis is right, the power will just peter away, it is a gradual process, it will not backfire as suggested as the R90 vaporiser shuts the secondary gland down on low pressure to eliminate this, just switch it to petrol as described in your book of words and away you go.

Im off to get gassed this week. Im told that you get somee kind of light thing that lights up when full and lights go out when getting low on fuel. Has anyone got a normal fuel gauge fitted for LPG as this is what I would prefer.
Sherlock.

Cheers for that Steve - it's running like a dream but the gauge problem is making it hard for me to work out what I've got in the tank.
As a ballpark figure what range should I be getting on a full tank? (It's the 2.1 Westy you did at the beginning of the month - I think you said you were going to put thye bigger tank in).
Thanks

A conventional fuel guage is not possible and most lpg users use the odometer to track the mileage covered. The LED display is a useful visual aid but, as with all guages, not completely accurate. You will soon get the hang of it though, once I have covered 225 miles I refill, sometimes the LED display shows red and other times I still have a green LED lit. It will not be a problem.

I understand that - it's similar to my other van - but this one starts on 2 lit green lights with a full tank, and then goes to all four lit after 90 miles - that can't be right!

The R90 or whatever it is may prevent backfires but older types are VERY prone to backfires and destroying anything plastic. Why don't cars with plastic manifolds use this super back fire restinat R90?

Not sure why, but anyone fitting conventional LPG vaporisers to plastic manifolds is asking for trouble, if it has a plastic manifold then it should be sequentially injected.
Some of the more inferior quality conversion equipment will backfire at the best of times, tartarini and boca are famous for it, we use OMVL equipment only as it ranks in at very high quality and lots of features, the absolute ultimate is the Prinz system, again at a price, a standard 4 cylinder conversion will be around the £2000 mark.

It just needs pointing out about the get what you pay for. I was very lucky with my lpg conversions but local company to me would fit anything they can get away with and then tell their customers do not run it out.

Yup no problem with running out on my gasure'd LPG conversion.
In fact I deliberately allow it to run out and flick the switch to petrol, as it is good practice to use the petrol once every so often to keep the system clean and operating as it should for when, one day, you NEED to use it !!
The gauge is a bit hit and miss - I just fill up, know that I will get around 220 miles, it runs out, I use petrol until I get to the LPG station
When I fill up, the LPG gauge wanders up and down for about the first 15 miles, then it settles down to 4 lights for about 80 miles, 3 for another 50 ish, then 2 then 1 for the last 50 (ish) miles, you get used to it though, as I say, I don't take much notice of it
Best thing I ever bought anyway

Steve, you have a PM

my lights lie to me, as doe the guage on the tank!!!
full= four lights, guage shows full
Empty= 2 or 3 lights, (depending on how she feels) and reading half on the guage on the tank.
Know I will get 160 to the tank. Have 1/4 tank of petrol for the OMG no LPG moments, and the monthly 10 mile run on liquid gold as advised to keep the petol lines good (and to make sure the petrol pump is working.....
