Fuel drops back down the line when parked

Having a bit of a problem when trying to start my van. The fuel seems to have dropped back down the line whilst parked up and I have to pump it through manually using the pump in the engine bay before I can start it.

Any ideas why this would happen?

Once it has started I have no worries and it is running really well.

Without seeing the van I wouldn't like to guess. But a simple remedy would be to fit a one way valve in the fuel line, after the inline filter.

it's a 1.6td and as far as i know there is a one way valve in the fuel line at some point (maybe not working properly.

No idea what type of pump it is though.

this is what could be happing to my van it only in the moring she well not start and ones it going it seem to be ok all day and i had to use easy start to get it up and running fist but the last to day she has start oh do me nut

To clarify, I pump the black thing in the top right of this pic and the fuel travles through the tube that sweeps down the right hand side of the pic (it is now a nice new transparent tube so i can see what is happening).

my set up not like you one. so i going to try somethink out to see if it come thought and to see if its still they in the moring

i no its somethink to do with it as it start soon as i put a bit of easy start in it,but like i say it been start up ok last 2 days my be theys a block some were mmmm

Them filter housings are really bad for air leaks, clean around the black pump bit and them smear silicone all around the edge and don't press it again.

u could be right as someone chang me fillet.the one of the black pump, and it could be geting air in it now as he mit not put it back right,like i say some days would start gart, and then other day it well not start at all i look in to that now thanks

That pump on the filter certainly isn't original.

Normally the 1.6 td has no means for manual pumping and is supposed to be self priming.

Maybe that filter/pump was put in as a botch for another problem somewhere else? (leaking fuel line, leaking injection pump ?)

On your pic the foot of the injection pump looks a bit wet to me (can't really see clearly) maybe that's where the problem is ?

Looks like a Pug/Citroen style filter and priming pump assy to me...
air leaks as Andy says.. check all connections..
