Anyone installed a automatic fire extinguisher

Hello, just signed up, actually from another Forum "earlybay.com" but one of our members is after a firetec extinguisher system in the engine bay of a T25, the kits I get on bulk orders will comfortably fit the T2 engine bay just wondering if anyone here has fitted a system into there T25/can it be done?

I suspect that with a 2ltr Aircooled lump the answer will be a yes as there should be space a plenty especially if the bottle and hose are fitted directly to the Hatch, but the diesel and watercooled look a little tighter.

Any info and pics would be gratefully recieved....

I have one out of an ac , I have washed and polished it ready for you , Its not big but you need an explosives expert for the cartridges that enable it to fire !! You can have it for a few beers at Tech weekend , i think disco dave may be able to help fit it !!

I have a Fire Trace automatic Dry Powder in The Bus .... not totally installed yet though due to engine swapperoundery

These are/were compulsory in all vehicles which drive underground at the mine I used to work at. They basically comprise of a pressurised thin plastic hose which melts upon contact with excessive temperatures discharging the contents through the melt hole.

where/how are you mounting the bottle and hose, I've had a look in a diesel and thats gonna be tight however the Aircooled single carb i looked at theres plenty of space.

The plan is that the extinguisher itself will be in my gas locker (with the Eber fuel tank too) and will pass along the wiring to the leisure battery, which is next to the wardrobe above the engine bay and then into the engine bay along the petrol line, round the carb and lpg hoses and to end on the return fuel line. It has a 5 mtr trace on it.

Hope this helps, even though our's is a Screwfix Special interior.

Hiya,

There's not much point fire tracing the electrical lines, as unfused they will reignite as soon as the extingusher is empty. Fuses are a much better fire prevention on leisure currents and should blow well before any chance of fire.

Been thinking about fitting a firetrace to the engine bay but in the meantime I carry a 2kg carbon dioxide cylinder to empty through the licence plate flap, once I've isolated the battery, should sort most fires...

On our's it's an easy way to get the firetrace through gromets into the engine bay from the gas locker

i.e. thick wire from fridge via battery compartment to split charger which is in the engine bay.

Unless your van has a battery isolation switch put the fire out first & then isolate the battery by disconnecting the leads from the terminals.

A carbon dioxide extinguisher will put out most fires but if you're dealing with a fuel fire once the CO2 disperses the fire could reignite. The best extinguisher would be an A.F.F.F. or a dry powder (A.B.C.).

A few months ago I tried to find enough 80-90ers to buy a minimum of 20 A.F.F.F.s at a very good price per unit but I could only drum up a total of 8 possible sales. The idea was shelved due to lack of interest.

I have an order to process for earlybay.com at the minute 15/16 at that I can arrange a 40% discount....thats why I'm asking as the 16th is a T25.... If your interested drop into early bay its under general topics and thread is I believe Fire suppression its quite close to the top....no need to register just pop back here and let me know, most of the options and prices are there....

Doubtful, I reckon.

We could have had 2 litre AFFF extinguishers at slightly under £20 each & only 4 of us from 80-90 + 1 Demon Dubber were interested. If peeps won't pay £20 then they certainly won't pay £99 or more.
