my engines not happy in the wet

Post by dink »

my t3 is fine in the dry, take it out in the wet she gets all upset
the motor misses, today i drove 150 miles, 35 miles from home she starts missing
it's been an ongiong problem
so far i've changed the plugs, plug leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm
all the wires/ leads have had a good soaking with ignition sealer spray from last time, as has the coil and the little black box thing
it doesn't have the ignition stabaliser thingy {or what ever it's called}

what else do i need to change

is it a common problem

sounds to me like you are getting water in the fuel tank.

it gets in around the filler neck and usually the breathers from the tank

i'm pretty sure it's not water getting in the fuel
i put a brand new tank, filler neck and all fuel lines, filters
everything got replaced
the filter is clean enough, no sign of water

are your plug caps clean?internally?
sounds like arcing to me, extra damp makes the circuit easier to make.
lift the engine lid when its playing up, whenits dark, can you see, or hear sparks? cracked dissy cap? leads?
just coz they are new dont make them good......

use a plant sprayer on mist setting and spray one area at a time.

also if you have changed most things check all the live and earth connections in the engine bay.

i presume you have changed all for new parts if not you could be chassing your tail.

all the tinware is there, as far as i know anyway
i have a haynes book, but that's next to useless
but as i said before there's not been any sign of water on the electrics
the next things i was going to try, were to change out the coil and the ignition module

it's wet outside again, and i have another 130 miles to drive this afternoon

is there a tinwear under your coil?
as for this afternoon, take a tin of wd40 with you, give it a good soaking in that......before you leave.

how easy is it to take the top off the carb, to see if there's any crap in there

it looks to me like one of the cooling system pipes goes through one side, and i definately don't want to have to drain down the cooling system
i can't see a section on stripping carbs in the wiki section
i'll go outside and take picture, maybe someone will tell me if i'm complete in the tinware dept

all the bits that have been replaced, were replaced with new parts

why do you think its crap in the carb ?
take the three 8mm nuts off the the top of the air intake, lift it off, and you can look down the carb from the top.....

you can clamp the water pipes before you undo them, and you shouldnt be needing to bleed anything

i can't remember the last time i was out in the dark and it was playing up like this
within an hour of being stopped after the last trip, i went out and started it and drove it, problem was gone
i took pictures with the camera phone, then soaked all the electrics with ignition sealer, all the wires start to finnish, all over everywhere

what's the box in the top left
is there too much of a gap in the bottom right, am i missing some tinware down there

is it worth while to extend the tinware closer towards the engine
would it make the engine overheat
