Gearbox question?

Post by aircooler80 »

Hi my mate has a 1.9dg and the engine has gone pop...he has a running turnkey 2.0 litre cu he wants to put in the same van.
Would there be any issues / probs fitting the cu engine onto the dg gearbox and starter motor? i.e. will the dg box and starter fit onto the cu engine?
Are the dg box and cu box similar ratios?

Any advice appreciated
Thanks

My DG powered van has the earlier "DK" gearbox fitted.

This is the opposite of what you propose so I guess it should be OK.

On looking at mine it seems that the clutch slave cylinder has been mounted on a non standard bracket ( I could be wrong though ) so that might be a small issue.

As far as I know the ratios are as near the same as makes no difference.

As far as I can tell, by looking on GSF and JK etc, there are 3 types for manual gearbox vans.

Re starters =
Air-cooled = pinion is close to the starter body
Early WBX = pinion spaced 1" aprox away from the body and the main cable stud is short
Later WBX = pinion spaced 1" aprox away from the body and the main cable stud is much longer ( because the alternator wire has a plastic collar on it ).

Just for my education, what does the reference "turnkey" refer to ?

Thanks very muchly for info..doesnt seem much of a problem then...regarding "turnkey" it means complete engine with everything fitted i.e. carbs, linkage, alternator, ignition, exhaust, tinware and cooling sytem... so it can be slotted in, connected to fuel and electris then started by "turning the key"...:)
