Stalling bus

Post by Pepperami »

When it's cold ie early in the morning my van wont tick over straight away. It keeps stalling which is getting on my crotchety old git of a neighbours nerves. Getting on his nerves isn't the problem though he's getting on mine now. Got any idea's so i can sort this before i sort him. Cheers.

I have just shoved a big spring down my oil breather pipe it had a flatterned kink (under advise from laurie petit on justkampers), because of oil in the air intake, and I reckon it is dripping into the carb and cutting it out. all this cold weather and the oil vapours condensing? I hope it sorts out my cutting out problems.

I thought my van cutting out for the first 20 miles was unusual at first but it appears quite common, perhaps there is something in the water

when you say it keeps stalling -
do you mean - it puts up a sign -
lays out wooden tables - and starts to sell salt and pepper sets, big print books and home made jam to middle aged aunties? -
or -
that the engine keeps cutting out?
if the latter -
2carpros (true!) - suggest -

The van will stall restart and the van drives away. Sometimes it hesitates some times it doesn't. Also, when we come to a complete stop at stop sign go to take off the van bogs for about 10 to 20 seconds then takes off. We are also using more fuel then normal. Changed everything for tune-up that we can think off even new wires (spark) still have problem also new fuel pump if you can help us out we would really be grateful..

Answer: We think that a faulty ignition pick-up coil and/or ignition module could have failed. The problem could be the little green plastic box 2 x 2 inches in size called Idle Stabilizer. It is mounted on the driver side in engine compartment and is one of the electrical components with distributor and Hall sensor that controls the ignition and timing.

you dont need that you can bypass it completely, mine continued to stall then too:D

vacuum hoses or connectors? advance / retard on the distributer?

Now your talking...........Mine was doing exactly the above for the best part of a month, I took it to the VW main dealer down the rd from me.

He said it's very common on these vans....He called it farmers market syndrome.

Hi used to have a 1.9 DG that used to stall every now and then.
Tracked it down to a dirty carb and the electric manifold heater didn't work.
Cleaned out the carb and replaced the temp switch(not the one for the gauge, the other one)and had no bother after that.
Hope this helps.
