Hello,
Maybe this should be in the tec section but hey.
So i have finally got my van on to a two tank system with heated filter and heat exchanger.
I took it out for a run today, got it up to temperature and switched to SVO.
After a 15 min run on an A road around 50mph i turned off to a smaller road, i noticed as i accelerated that the van sounded more tractor like and was idling lower 50 - 100rpm less.
The SVO is heating up good and proper and the pump dosnt seem to struggle to get veg oil so i am wondering what it is that is making the engine idl lower.
The tractor noise is at very low revs only, the engine idls fine once its switch to diesel and the tractor noise also goes away.
does any one know why this is happening?
many thanks
Jon

I might have the answer to this.As i have a terminal 1.6td engine that was run on SVO /Waste oil.If its a worn engine the build up of carbon helps to seal up ring wear and in other places. When you run it on vegi oil it acts as a detergent in effect cleaning out carbon and other deposits that keep the engine tight. Now before any one says b****cks this has what has happened to my 1.6td over the week end.Horrible noises as discribed like a tractor at low revs.As andysimpson said its running on some think its not supposed to.Before it throws a piston .Currently replacing the engine with a 70.000 mileage 1y and not to keen on running it with vegi.Oh lots of blue smoke and noises /starting problem which the 1.6td did not have before.

Ill run with the idea about the carbon cleaning the engine out and andy ill run with the idea it will fu$k is up. its an easy system for me to transplant to a diffrent newer car we all leanr, some of use the easy way and some of use the hard way.
Thanks for the heads up.

No car engine is designed to work with veg oil and the newer you go the less tolerant they become.

The 1.6td had done aprox 160.000 miles so fair doo .Other-Power wrote:Andy, camper says that his older engine was cleaned by the veg oil,
If a newer engine hasnt got as much of a build up then a new engine should be more tolarent, if bought up on veg oil?

Its the injection systems that normally go bang, more modern systems are alot more fragile and veg oil will push them over the edge eventually.
