New Van awfy sluggish
My first van and I'm quite disappointed - Just bought an 86 1900 Petrol T25 Reimo camper yesterday, 112000 miles, looks great, but spent the whole day driving up the motorway from Manchester to Falkirk.
Top speed is about 60 and any long drag speed creeps down to 35-40 - never seen so much traffic in my mirrors! Surely this can't be right, have I bought 'pig in a pock' or will it just need a good service?
Everything sounds all right but just nae guts about it.

That would be 'poke'.moanthebairns wrote:'pig in a pock'

I'd give it a service, all the serviceable items aforementioned AND a fuel filter, under the van by the 'tank. See how much sediment has built up in it and get the fuel lines cleaned if its quite a bit. get them cleaned anyway if you're in doubt, make sure everything is tip top! replace the vac hoses and test for leaks, (include a vapour trap on the dizzy vac line!) and test the vacumn advance on the dizzy, and make sure the centrifuge wieghts are free to move and then get the ignition timing checked plus a tune-up on an emissions tester could do any harm. Could be something simple at the end of the day but that top speed is far from anything good, mine will hit 85 before the rev limiter takes hold..

Allways try the easy stuff first. Rick
Yes, but use insulated pliars

it is not a "new van" it is an "old van", sounds about right to me, perhaps you have a DF engine like me instead of a DG. you can tell as water does not go to the carb preheater. it is about 25% less powered than a DG.
either that or your speedo is a little faulty, mine states 70mph when I am following lorries and I dont get reminded of the speed limit in villages if the clock is saying 40mph, maybe yours is the other way.
timing makes a difference too.

Agree with the earlier posts, give it a service and check the fuel filter.
If you need a second opinion give me a shout I've got a 1.9DG and can come and have a look.
I'm up in California, so not too far from you.

am i right in saying df is pre-86 and then dg engine.. i have a df 240,000 miles on it and it will travel at 75mph down the motorway..

THEY SHOULD HAVE LEFT HIM ALONE.

I think it was a german version, do you have 5 gears? I can overtake lorries on the motorway, but I think dylan prefers ticking along at about 50. when I first collected it I overtook a load of vw campervans, and checked out there bodies etc... but when the slave cylinder gave up, before reaching our house - I decided to drive with a little more care

Hi Moanthebairns, whats your top speed now that you have repleced the cable???
I have had my van for 2 years & just thought that they were slow due to being old & have a load of camping stuff in, but started to think when I took it out on sat that maybe the cable needed adjusting as couldn't get above 3500 revs.
Cheers
Sean
