Courtesy light dimming but not going out

Post by Chunkmama »

Hi all don't know what to do now - I've not been able to use my alarm as I needed a new courtesy light button for my sliding door as it wouldn't switch off the light, so got a new button put it in and light went out and alarm went on, but only for one night as now have the same problem again, I press in the button and the light dims but won't do out (although it didn't even dim before). I've checked the wiring in the light seems ok although I think there is a rouge wire from the tailgate button which doesn't make the light come on or off anyway.

Any suggestions

Cheers.
If its empty re fill it!

Sounds like someone has been messing with the electrics - the door switches connect the wire to ground (-ve) .. if there is a shortcut, then the lamp will still light up.

I suggest you carefully remove the door switches and look for any shortcut that might cause them to light. When you say the alarm goes on I presume you mean it arms and waits for a disturbance.

Alternatively the alarm might be causing a short to ground - I am not familiar with the alarm circuit ... but you could isolate the alarm (remove power to it and the sensor connection - this will stop it grounding your lamp) and see what happens.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the replys - the alarm doesn't arm because it thinks the door is open, the alarm won't arm if the lights off - no one has messed with the electrics since the alarm was fitted and that has been fitted for ages. Very odd but having it checked out today.

Cheers
