I think the best way it to use veg oil with a pre heater, the main prob caused by using veg oil are that it is not as thin as diesel and when in a cold state it can clog up fuel lines. Veg oil can also be acidic and destroy fuel lines (don't worry its not an overnight thing) and can also destroy seals in the pump.
A pre heater will warm the oil to a usuable temp and not cause problems. Pre heating will also help with starting.
If you are using a 50/50 mix then I would worry less as it mixes with the diesel ok.
Wow now you highlight it my comments did sound weird.... yes been using it for 3 years in mmy citroen zx diesel car... no probs.. 12 months in my camper.. it`s my campers first mot in my hands. after 12 months of 50/50 mix. [ approx] depends on pennies in my pocket. Will let you know. after monday `s test. given it 1 week of pure diesel, but no difference in drive or performance what so ever, just to help on test . Fingers crossed. Any one know if a catalitic converter in an audi will run on cooking oil???????. my friend is interested to try . cheers all, haggis.
Well it passed its MOT with flying colours... and the new one with everything computerised. So I can safely say cooking oil has no effect on the "thingy" they stick up the exhaust.. to test its emmissions. As you have said cleaner than diesel. Heres to another 12 months of cooking oil running. See you at shell island or van fest. Cheers Haggis.
they cannot dip you and find veg oil, they cant really tell if you using new
I think you will find that they do not dip tanks nowadays. They use a "sniffer" that goes in the exhaust and yes they can tell if you are running on cooking oil and will impound your vehicle, possibly destroy it if you are
some how cant see that happening and no one on here has been done and no one i no so? mot probes cant detect it it dosent stain your pipes etc its all good baby!
I work for Revenue and Customs and I can tell you that the roadside units CAN detect cooking oil.......use at your own risk. I have done in the past before working here, but you do risk confiscation and destroying of the vehicle if caught.......funnily enough I was checking up on this today on the works intranet to see what the advantages were on doing this legaly. The tax they charge you is 45p litre.......so providing you can get cheap veggi oil (ie less than 35p litre) then it is worthwhile doing it above board

hi guys, MR R DEISEL designed the "diesel" to run on peanut oil, so veg oil should be fine and acctual be better for your engine as oil is a better lubicant.

HI there , why must we pay duty on veg oil just because we decide to burn it rather than cook hart attack inducing foods
Because the government can't bare to see vehicle users get away with not paying taxes so they make up some crap to cover anything we use to run our motors. If you ask me, they should cut the duty payable on veg oil - especially as the Government has an obligation (as do all road users) to cut emiisions and lower oil use.
Its good to have a view from the other side excalibur, the rules are sometimes a bit grey and wordy.
the duty is the same for any uel substitute, used or new chip fat its all the same.
and the reason is the same as any tax we pay whether income tax, vat fuel duty, excise duty etc. ..................where would third world countries get all their money from, where would african dictators get the cah to build their palaces, where would asylum seekers get the money to fund widescreen tv's............we all have to pay tax
