Brake fluid puddles problem

Post by Dubmeister »

I have brake fluid leaking in the drivers footwell. It's coming from just where there is a small brake pipe, just above the brake pedal.

If the van stands unused for a few days there is no leakage but if the van is used there is drips of fluid dripping off of the pipe.

It is really difficult to see where it is leaking but I wondered if anyone else has had this problem. I understand if could be the master cylinder but am unsure.

I have searched history for this one and haven't really found an answer.

Dubmeister.

Have a look at this thread, seems a possible source of leak.

Here

We used to use a kit called 'Dyechek' IIRC, which was designed to help in crack detection. One of the aerosols would leave a chalky residue on the surface being checked, which would draw the coloured penetrating dye, used in the previous step, out of the crack. Be nice if a similar product was available to help locate the odd seepage such as you are experiencing.

Thanks for that. I will check out more closely the leakage source.

Most likely the clutch master cylinder or the feeder pipe to it.

Tip..While you are under there give your brake/clutch pedal pivot pin a good spray of wd40. mine started to stick and I had to take the whole lot off to sort it.
