tis a free-flowing airfilter made from foam if its pipercross, much like the time favoured K&N's, just, foam. I have a K&N style cone filter on my 1.9DG

Make it have (possibly) a more throaty induction note, more free passage of air for the engine (possibly improve throttle responce time) and, like jamesc76 said, fitted for life, never change, just clean at 50,000 mile (ish) intervals.

PLUS, halfords sell the ones that I have fitted for £25. bargain.

Well, it was a toss up between the £8 Mann filter or the £40 K&N.

£8 won in the end....

Remember if you're thinking of fitting or have already fitted a cone filter instead of the standard air filter/air box arrangement the engine will be sucking in hot air from the engine bay instead of the cold air which it prefers.

K&N do replacement lifetime filters to fit in the standard air box on a 2.1.

On my photo?

Thats a cool air feed from underneath ahead of the engine near the gearbox. I'd like to think also that the filter fitted at the BACK of the engine bay would keep some hot air at bay due to the fact that I go forward and the air for the standard filter comes from that corner anyway.. Could probably due with a heatsheild anyway though..

always a bit suspicious of these foam cone filter things.

Look at the work vw put in to making an air box, hot/cold air ducting, thermostatic vacuum operated change over thingies etc.

and you bin all this of and stick a sponge on the end!!!???

Sure it would have been cheaper for vw to do that in the first place but they didn't... why?

also and I know its not t25 related but they don't recomend fitting them to G60 motors as apparently they let bigger particles in than a paper filter, not sure if thats the case but I didn't risk it!
