Rocker shafts etc

Are you sure they are different size holes?

If you look at the wear pattern on the shafts (caused by the rockers) you will find most wear is on the bottom.

If you kept your shafts seperate from each other ie, left side to the left etc, with the rockers put back in place it will be a doddle to put them back the correct way.

12,000 miles ago I turned my shafts through 180 degrees and they have never given me any trouble. So I don't think it's that critical.

If you are doubtful, give your VW (Commercial) garage a bell.

Looking at each end of where the shaft fits over the studs on the cylinder head. Each rocker shaft for 1 2 3 4 has a slightly enlarge hole at one end.I think this is to help oil distribution oil lubrication.I have replaced the shafts where this hole is at the rocker end.
