VEGE or ELITE , revisited!!!

Post by chippieshaun »

Some of you may remember a thread i started a few weeks ago. I was trying to decide on who to use for my replacement engine (1.9 water cooled) and eventually booked the van in with 'Elite'.
A few of you were interested to hear how i got on so thought would give you a quick progress report!
Firstly , the debate about how they do if for the money (£680 fitted) could roll on and on! All i know is that they have been fantastic!
Mick and Mick from Elite really do know there stuff and have been working on T25's for years....really do seem to know their stuff. They are 'old fashioned' mechanics , not just fitters.
Aswell as doing the engine they also put a complete new exhaust system in (half new and half 'good' second hand), new clutch , new thermostat, new expansion tank , various new coolant hoses and various other bits and bobs for under £1200!!!!
Have now done about 350 miles on new engine , at 40 - 45mph on motorways (painful!!!!) and is running like a dream!! Couple of issues with cutting out but sorted after cleaning carb out and changing fuel filter (touch wood!)
Early days , I know but very impressed so far. Service at 500 miles and then off to Scotland in March for couple of weeks for the real test!
Will let you know how it goes!

Shaun,
Glad you are having a good experience with them!

I was on the phone to them this morning regarding the exiting of oil from the engine. They talked me out of just changing the engine.....saying that a repair is probably the better option - but that they would thoroughly test the engine first - sniffer test / compresion test etc etc, and if it showed up that there was anything that would cause trouble in the next few months, they will advise an engine change.

They are collecting the van next Tuesday evening. If its just hte suspected repair, should have him home for the end of that week!

Take care

Hi Emma
Sorry to hear about the oil leak :(
Was that an Elite engine that is leaking or other?

Thanks for the update Shaun - its always nice to get some feedback from people on what they actually did after they made their decision!

Sounds good - i hope you have many miles of trouble free motoring!

Have a good trip
