Radiator question.

Post by Danny-Boy »

Good day to all, I`m still in the process of converting the van from air to watercooled, would anyone be able to tell me which is the input and which is the output on the radiator? I think the rad is from a 1600 diesel,so has a apature on the bottom and on one about 2 inches above it on the side. I dont want the old girl to overheat

Regards

Danny,

Don't know for sure, never had mine out, but logic says the upper one will be from the engine (water pump?), and the lower the return to the engine.

Does the upper connection feed into a built-in duct up the side of the rad?

I seem to remember seeing something along those lines while I had the grill off many years ago.

Yes the upper one does go into a built in duct on the rear facing right hand side of the rad. Just needed some confirmation as which was which?? If that makes sense. :)

Danny,

That should be correct then. The hot coolant from the pump goes to the upper connection, and via the built-in duct to the top of the radiator.

Airflow through the matrix causes the coolant to lose heat and become denser, sinking to the bottom of the radiator, and from there it returns to engine. The thermosyphon effect thus aiding the pump circulation.
