Must have kit

Post by Sir Chad »

Hi all, we're going to start using the bus for camping this year, We've got a homebrew with full width R&R bed No cupboards, fridge or cooker and 2 kids age 2 & 3.
I'm making a shopping list - starting with some thermal screens.
Anyone got any suggestions of things I should get or recommendations for good kit.

If your going to have gas on board then I'd recommend a gas alarm (to detect leaks of propane or butane) set low down in the van; a carbon monoxide alarm (set up a height in the van); smoke alarm; fire extinguisher. Keep an eye on your local Lidl / Aldi / Netto for these.

Awning or canopy; leisure battery; heating of some sort; lighting; electric hook-up; porta potti? Lots of cupboard space for storing all those little bits and pieces (and the bigger bits and pieces!) Depends how much space and comfort you want I guess.

Hi Sir Chad,

we started with the very basics....and have built up of the last year!

We started with mainly second hand.....and upgraded / got shot of / replaced as we have gone along. For example, the van came with a standard 3 way fridge. Used it the first time as a cool box....found it wasn't big enough....bought a huge cool box that rides in the floor space, but lives in the awing when camping! Got a good insulation rating on it, too.

Replaced the awning this year....gone from royal traveller to Khyam (bank balance, what bank balance). Last year, no cupboards except for the very small one under the sink unit.....now am installing a second hand interior with storage space......

Hope you enjoy your van!
