Glow plug LED won't go out

Post by ASH »

The light doesn't go out on my 1.6td and its a pain to get started, chucking out lots of smoke in the process, is it the glow plugs or the lack of power to the glow plugs?

not exactly clued up on these oil burners.

oh and, yes, once its started the light does go out.

Its the massive one next to the engine in a black box. Before that, check the fuse in the same area. Its not a small fuse - its a bit of metal inbetween two terminals....

ok heres where im at now, changed the glow plug relay, and the aux relay next to it, now the light goes out after about 40 seconds, but still struggles to start (about 3 mins constant cranking) and till smokes when trying to turn over.

So what should I change next, the srip of metal is in one piece.

you need to establish if you have power to (and along) the buzzbar to the glowplugs...... my guess is you have at least 2 glowplugs not glowing, possibly more..... i hope you have thin fingers!

all done. total time 2 hours :D

only one glow plug was working, so changed all 4, cleaned up the bus bar, also found the fuel cut off wire was split and only attached by a few strands, so got that done.

Also theres a red plug with 2 wires going into it, plugs in between the back 2 injectors, well one of the wires was no longer attached, had to do a quick fix on that, any ideas on what it is?

Anway starts first time, well chuffed :D
