Sounds perhaps like the starter motor ? - give it a hammer while someone's turning ignition

has a wire come off the alternator m8? i wonder if the red light you saw on the way to d/f was the charging light?

Thanks for the prompt replies today volks. I tested the battery and it read 12.02 volts obviously way to low. Borrowed a battery and GQ jump leads. got it going it would appear that the V belt was not tight enough.
So much for the good run back from Dub freeze charging the battery. All sorted now (i hope) Cheers.

the belt would have to be very loose and making a hell of a noise before the battery would not get any charge...
I would look for something left on in the system somewhere... or potentially the battery didnt like the cold weather and has died..

Will go and check again. Once running it showed 14.03 volts so it looks like the alternator is charging.

Check the lead from the alternator to the split charger and to the back of the starter motor. Sound's like you've a hole in your lectric tank, lectric goes out of alternator but doesn't reach Mr Battery. Tis a common fault
