Anyone know how I go about setting the VP?
Notice that it is eliptical when you turn it. Is there a best position?
thanks in advance

make sure its bolted in properly before you run the engine... It drives the oil pump. I had one pop out of an AAZ after the clamp came loose and it trashed the engine ...

Dave - Nothing wrong with it mate when I got the engine it came minus a vac pump which I sourced from the local scrappy. On closer inspection the notch that the oil pump shaft fits into does appear quite worn....think I may change this again.

Jet- sound advice....thanks!

When I took the engine out and stripped it I couldnt believe the swarf in the sump. It still (just) ran, just sounded like hammers being beaten together. It had long wiskers of swarf poking out of the bottom end bearings about 6" long! Real shame was it was great engine until then!
