import paperwork headaches (Form V55/5)

Is it just me or is the form V55/5 a headache? is there anything on the wiki about it that I've missed? I can't see anything. I'm a bit stumped for the technical questions (which is most of them!) questions like CO2, towing weight. Is it best to take a morning off work and go to the DVLA office or is all this information available here somewhere?

Also, what's the score regarding the customs forms?

Most of the questions you don't need to answer as the form seems to be a coverall type of thing. You could go down to the local DVLA office and they'll take you through it, or you could ring up the DVLA in Swansea. That's what I did and a very nice lady talked me through it, and due to the age of the van, I hardly had to fill any of the boxes in. Engine number and all that yes, but towing capacity and CO2, no. I thought it was a V55/4 form or is that the one for new cars?

hi matt
did mine last week and you really only fill in about 1/4 of it. get the engine no on it, the vin and enter the obvious stuff. find your local dvla office and go there, wait 30 mins and you are done.
did mine last wednesday, and got the plate number sent today (its now on the van)
just remember to take all the german stuff, they will take what they want and bobs your uncle.
